Product description

Goodyear's Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 is a Max Performance Summer tyre developed for the drivers of high performance sports cars, coupes and saloons and is designed to deliver improved handling and steering response. The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 features Goodyear’s ActiveBraking Technology to enhance braking performance on dry and wet roads.

The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2uses a tread compound which combines Goodyear race traction resins for dry grip, high surface silica for wet traction and high molecular weight polymers to optimize the tread stiffness. This special compound is moulded into an asymmetric tread design with a wide, solid outside shoulder to increase cornering traction and continuous notched inside ribs to improve high speed stability. Goodyear's ActiveBraking Technology 3-dimensional tread element designs increase surface contact with the road to reduce stopping distances during heavy braking, while its wide circumferential grooves displace water from the tyre’s footprint.

The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 has an internal construction which includes twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped polyamide cord to improve tread stability and high-speed capability. Goodyear's lightweight racing-derived construction lowers unsprung mass to enhance performance while their crossed plies carcass improves steering precision, handling and braking power.

As with all summer tyres, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

EU Tyre Label Information

Rolling resistance (which impacts on fuel consumption):

  • There will be a grade, ranging from A to G, for rolling resistance.
  • An A grade tyre will have 7.5% better fuel consumption than a G grade tyre.
  • That means that every 10,000 kilometres, 50 litres will be saved by using an A grade tyre.
  • This represents an average; depending on the road surface, journey type and driving style.

Wet grip performance:

  • The labels go from A (the shortest braking distance) to F for the longest.
  • There are no D and G grades for car and van tyres.
  • The test is braking distance of a vehicle driving on a road covered with between 0.5 and 1.5mm of water.
  • • At 80km per hour there will be a difference of four car lengths (around 18 metres) between cars fitted with A grade tyres and those with F grade tyres.

External noise:

  • Beyond 50 km per hour, rolling resistance noise normally exceeds engine noise.
  • On the label there will be a symbol of a tyre with three waves, some black and some merely in outline.
  • A tyre with three black waves is in compliance with current European regulation but will breech regulations to be introduced in 2016.
  • A tyre with two black waves is already in compliance with the 2016 regulations.
  • A tyre with one black wave will be at least three decibels quieter than the 2016 regulations.
